Overview of Manaslu Circuit Trek – 14 Days

Manaslu Circuit Trek-The Hidden Tibetan Village in Nepal

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s finest adventure treks. If you want a 360° panorama of towering peaks, the Everest Base Camp Trek is ideal-but if you’re seeking a deeper experience filled with mountain culture, authentic Nepali rural lifestyle, serene valleys, and untouched natural beauty, then the Manaslu Circuit Trek is the perfect choice. This incredible journey combines majestic Himalayan views, peaceful landscapes, traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, rich cultural heritage, and remarkable biological diversity. It’s the ultimate off-the-beaten-path adventure for trekkers who want both natural beauty and cultural immersion.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek, also known as the Manaslu Larke Pass Trek, is one of Nepal’s most rewarding and untouched adventure treks. Located east of the Annapurna range and bordering Tibet, the region opened to foreign trekkers only in 1992 and still remains a restricted trekking area. Because of this, Manaslu preserves its pristine landscapes, ancient traditions, and wilderness charm-making it a dream destination for adventure lovers seeking a more peaceful alternative to the crowde dcharm, making trails of Annapurna and Everest.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek leads you into a truly untouched Himalayan region where only a few trekkers dare to venture. Its diverse landscapes, dramatic gorges, authentic villages, and rich variety of flora and fauna leave every visitor amazed. Although the 14-Day Manaslu Circuit Trek is becoming more popular each year, it still receives far fewer trekkers compared to the crowded Annapurna region, making it perfect for those seeking solitude and raw Himalayan beauty. As a restricted region, Manaslu requires a special permit from the Immigration of Nepal and a minimum of two trekkers plus a licensed guide, which helps preserve its peaceful and authentic environment. Along the route, you’ll find basic but comfortable teahouses, with the option to camp if you prefer.

Standing at 8,163 meters, Mt. Manaslu-the eighth-highest mountain in the world-dominates the skyline throughout the trek, creating one of the most breathtaking backdrops in Nepal. The name Manaslu translates to “The Spirit Mountain,” and locals believe a compassionate and powerful deity resides within its sacred realm. Located near the Nepal-Tibet border, the trail takes you from lush subtropical forests to high-altitude glaciers, offering an incredible range of landscapes and natural diversity. Along the way, you’ll pass through magnificent woodlands filled with rhododendron, magnolia, birch, and pine trees that burst into color during spring, transforming the region into a Himalayan paradise. With its blend of cultural immersion, spiritual significance, rich biodiversity, and unforgettable mountain scenery, the Manaslu trek delivers a truly extraordinary trekking experience.

The Manaslu region, crowned by the dramatic Larke La Pass, rewards trekkers with breathtaking views of massive Himalayan peaks soaring above 8,000 meters, including Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m)-the world’s eighth-highest mountain. As you traverse this remote trail, you’ll also witness the stunning ranges of Buddha Himal, Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal to the east, and the majestic Annapurna Himalaya to the west.

If you have extra time, you can extend your Manaslu Circuit Trek by adding the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek-a rare opportunity to explore one of Nepal’s most secluded and spiritually rich regions. The Tsum Valley, far more isolated and untouched than the classic Manaslu Circuit, offers a deeply authentic experience where ancient Tibetan Buddhist traditions are still preserved in their purest form. Combining Tsum Valley with the challenging and scenic Manaslu Circuit creates a journey filled with natural beauty, cultural depth, and true wilderness adventure. This extended trek is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that adventurous trekkers should not miss.

Hiking in the Manaslu region requires careful planning, proper preparation, and a well-designed itinerary due to its remote trails and high-altitude challenges. Our 14 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek Itinerary is thoughtfully crafted to guide you through the most stunning sections of the route while ensuring a safe, smooth, and rewarding experience. With years of expertise in organizing Himalayan adventures, we provide a professionally managed trek that offers comfort, safety, and unforgettable mountain memories. Our Manaslu Circuit Trek package is designed to give you one of the most thrilling and meaningful journeys of your life.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek officially begins in Machha Khola and ends in Dharapani, offering a perfect mix of remote landscapes, cultural villages, and high-mountain adventure. If you have extra time, this route can be customized to continue toward the Annapurna Circuit, as the classic Annapurna trek also starts from Dharapani. This makes it easy to combine both regions into a single extended Himalayan journey. Perfect for trekkers looking for flexibility, customizable itineraries, and a seamless connection between Manaslu and Annapurna.

Join us on one of our scheduled Manaslu trek departure dates, or reach out to customize a tailor-made itinerary that perfectly suits your needs. Experience this thrilling and majestic Himalayan adventure with the support of our knowledgeable, experienced guides and porters who assist you every step of the way. At Dream Paradise, we are dedicated to turning your trekking dreams into reality and creating unforgettable memories that last a lifetime.

The beauty and depth of the Manaslu region cannot be captured in a single package, so we invite you to explore more detailed guides and blogs on our website. Below, you’ll find some key reasons why choosing us for your Manaslu Circuit Trek will give you a safe, meaningful, and truly exceptional trekking experience.

Major Attractions of the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Larke Pass Trek is a spectacular Himalayan journey that combines breathtaking natural landscapes, rich cultural experiences, and high-altitude adventure. Trekkers cross the challenging Larke La Pass at 5,160 meters, offering panoramic views of the towering Himalayas, and visit the Manaslu Base Camp at 4,800 meters, where the majestic 8,163-meter Manaslu peak and surrounding glaciers create unforgettable scenery. Along the way, the trail passes through traditional Gurung and Tibetan-influenced villages such as Samagaun, Samdo, Jagat, Ghap, Lhi, Lho, and Shyo, where ancient monasteries, Mani walls, and colorful prayer wheels reflect the region’s spiritual heritage. The trek also takes you through serene valleys and rivers like the Budhi Gandaki and Buri Gandaki, lush rhododendron and bamboo forests, alpine meadows, and pristine landscapes that change with each day of the journey. Travelers can experience unique Tibetan-style settlements, local culture, and the tranquility of remote mountain life, making this trek perfect for adventure seekers who want a mix of challenging trails, cultural immersion, and breathtaking Himalayan views. Access to the trek is usually via routes through Dhadingbesi, Gorkha Bazaar, or Benighat-Siurintar to Arughat Bazaar and onward to Sotikhola, though some sections involve unpaved roads that add to the adventure.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Trekking Experience in Manaslu

The Manaslu Larke Pass Trek offers a truly off-the-beaten-path adventure that stands apart from other trekking routes in Nepal. The trail is rugged, steep, and less frequented, taking trekkers through the pristine Manaslu Conservation Area, a rich wilderness that is home to over 110 bird species, 211 butterfly species, 33 mammals, 2,000 flowering plants, and 11 types of forests. This trek allows travelers to immerse themselves in untouched natural beauty while trekking through remote landscapes rarely visited by tourists.

The region is renowned for its stunning mountain vistas, making it one of Nepal’s most scenic trekking experiences. Along the route, trekkers pass beneath towering peaks. The combination of high-altitude landscapes, diverse wildlife, and dramatic mountain views makes the Manaslu Larke Pass Trek a memorable and unique adventure for those seeking both challenge and natural beauty.

Less Crowded Trekking Experience

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s least crowded trekking routes, offering a serene and peaceful adventure away from the popular trails like Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, and Poon Hill. The trek passes through remote villages and isolated settlements, and due to government restrictions and its off-the-beaten-path nature, it attracts far fewer trekkers.

This makes it ideal for travelers who prefer solitude and a more authentic Himalayan experience. Along the way, you will have ample opportunities to interact with locals, observe traditional lifestyles, and explore untouched landscapes. While the trail is generally quiet, some fellow trekkers may be encountered during the peak season in October, adding a sense of shared adventure without the crowds.

Crossing the Larke La Pass

The Larke La Pass, standing at 5,160 meters, is the highest point of the Manaslu Larke Pass Trek and one of the most challenging and rewarding high-altitude passes in the Himalayas. Trekking to this pass tests your endurance, determination, and trekking skills, as the trail features steep ascents, rocky terrain, and extreme conditions.

Reaching the top of Larke La Pass is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and glaciers. The sense of achievement and the incredible vistas make every step of the demanding climb worthwhile. For adventure seekers, crossing Larke La Pass is not just a physical challenge-it is a memorable Himalayan adventure that leaves an everlasting impression.

Today is more than just a rest day-it’s a vital pause for acclimatization in the breathtaking Himalayan village of Samagaun (3,530m), nestled beneath the towering peaks of the Manaslu region. As we gain altitude on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, allowing our bodies time to adjust is essential for a safe and enjoyable journey, especially before ascending to higher elevations like Samdo and crossing the Larkya La Pass.

Medical experts strongly recommend spending at least a day acclimatizing at this altitude. But acclimatization doesn’t mean staying idle. Light physical activity is encouraged, and Samagaun offers the perfect base for a truly unforgettable side trip – a day hike to Manaslu Base Camp (4,800m), the base of the world’s eighth highest mountain.

This 7- to 8-hour round-trip trek leads through spectacular Himalayan landscapes, with a scenic stop at the serene Birendra Lake. The trail climbs steadily, offering panoramic views of Mount Manaslu, dramatic glacial terrain, and pristine alpine beauty. While challenging, the hike is incredibly rewarding and serves as the ideal acclimatization adventure.

Before heading out, make sure you’re well-prepared with a packed lunch, plenty of water, and essential gear: trekking poles, a warm down jacket, gloves, sunglasses, and a thermal hat.

Spending this day in Samagaun, exploring its spiritual ambiance and untouched landscapes, allows your body to adjust while creating unforgettable memories of one of Nepal’s hidden trekking gems.

After an unforgettable stay in Samagaun, we continue our ascent toward Samdo (3,860m), the final settlement before crossing the iconic Larkya La Pass (5,106m) on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Although the distance is relatively short, the increasing altitude and dry mountain air add a level of challenge to the journey.

This 5 to 6-hour trek follows the Budhi Gandaki River, weaving through enchanting alpine forests filled with Rhododendron, Juniper, and Birch trees. As we gain elevation, the trail opens into a vast glacial valley, offering stunning views and peaceful surroundings. Key highlights include crossing Kermo Kharka and the spiritual white Kani Gateway, adorned with prayer flags and Mani walls, enhancing the Tibetan Buddhist atmosphere of the region.

Samdo Village, located near the Tibetan border, is rich in Tibetan culture and tradition. You’ll find small monasteries, local markets, and traders selling Tibetan and Chinese goods, giving the village a vibrant cross-border character. From Samdo, trekkers can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Manaslu, Simnang Himal, Ngadi Chuli, the Manaslu Glacier, and dramatic icefalls.

We spend the night in Samdo, soaking in the unique Himalayan ambiance and preparing for the final leg of our journey across Larkya La Pass.

Our journey today begins with a scenic descent from Samdo to the Budhi Gandaki River, followed by crossings over two streams that lead us toward the striking Larkya Glacier. The trail then winds through a dramatic high-altitude valley with breathtaking views of Mount Manaslu, Syacha Glacier, and the surrounding Himalayan giants. If you’re lucky, you may even spot Himalayan blue sheep grazing along the rugged slopes.

As we continue, we cross the river once again and make a steady ascent through Larkya Bazaar and the remote Salka Khola Valley. After approximately 7 kilometers of trekking, we arrive at Dharamsala (Larke Phedi), situated at 4,460 meters. This simple but essential overnight stop offers basic tea house accommodation, primarily used by trekkers preparing to cross the Larkya La Pass (5,106m) the following day.

In the afternoon, it’s recommended to take a light acclimatization hike, ascending at least 200 meters to help your body adapt to the altitude. This proactive step supports safer high-altitude trekking and enhances your chances of a successful and enjoyable pass crossing.

Overnight stay in Dharamsala, surrounded by towering peaks and the raw beauty of the high Himalayas.

Trip Information - Good to Know

When to trek to Manaslu Circuit Trek, or what are the best months (Season) to visit?

If this trek is on your bucket list, the best time to go is right after the monsoon, starting in mid-September. The rains clear the skies, leaving the lowlands lush and green, while the towering white peaks shine against superb blue horizons, all without the extreme cold. Another excellent time is April, when the trail comes alive with vibrant rhododendrons in full bloom, adding color and charm to your Himalayan adventure.

Autumn Season (September–October –November): Nepal’s peak trekking season offers stable weather, crystal-clear mountain views, and a lively, festive atmosphere across the trails. With bustling tea houses and many fellow adventurers, it’s the best time to experience the Himalayas at their finest. Both spring (March–May) and autumn provide ideal conditions for breathtaking scenery, comfortable hikes, and unforgettable trekking adventures, making them the top seasons to explore Nepal’s mountains.

Winter Season (December –January –February): The skies are usually clear during this season, offering breathtaking Himalayan views, but trekkers should be prepared for very cold temperatures and possible snowfall. Some trails may be closed or covered in snow, so it’s important to check conditions with your trip planner before departure. With the right preparation, this season offers rewarding adventures in a stunning winter landscape.

Spring (March – April – May): Nepal’s pre-monsoon season brings warm days, clear skies, and vibrant natural beauty, making it one of the best times to trek in the Himalayas. Valleys come alive with blooming rhododendrons, colorful flowers, and fresh greenery, while higher altitudes offer crisp mornings and cool nights. With sunny weather, breathtaking mountain views, and pleasant trekking conditions, this season is perfect for adventurers seeking both comfort and natural splendor on the trails.

Summer Season (June–July – August): The monsoon or summer season is the least popular time for trekking in Nepal due to heavy downpours and an increased risk of leeches, especially in forested areas along trails like Mardi Himal. Trekkers are advised to wear long trousers tucked in and carry leech or mosquito repellent spray for protection. Despite the challenges, this season can be rewarding for alpine flower researchers, as the landscapes bloom with diverse flora unique to the monsoon months.

Note: The best time to trek to Manaslu Circuit Trek is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer stable weather, clear mountain views, and pleasant temperatures, creating perfect conditions for scenic hikes and breathtaking landscapes. With blooming rhododendrons in spring and crisp skies in autumn, both seasons ensure a comfortable journey and an unforgettable Himalayan adventure. We do not recommend trekking the Manaslu Circuit during the winter or rainy seasons. In winter, the trail becomes extremely cold with heavy snowfall, and most guesthouses along the route-especially all lodges in Dharamsala-remain closed. During the monsoon season, the trail becomes very risky due to a high chance of landslides, slippery paths, and poor visibility. For a safer and more enjoyable experience, it’s best to trek the Manaslu Circuit during the clear and stable seasons of autumn or spring.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Difficulty and Preparation Tips for Trekkers

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is known for being one of Nepal’s more challenging trekking routes, mainly because of its remote trails, steep climbs, and the high-altitude crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,106m). The paths are less developed than those in the Everest or Annapurna regions, so trekkers need good physical fitness and preparation. You should be comfortable walking for several hours a day on rocky, uneven terrain while carrying a light daypack. Regular cardio workouts, strength training, and practice hikes with a backpack are highly recommended before the trip. The right trekking gear-such as warm layers, waterproof clothing, reliable boots, and a quality sleeping bag-is also essential for safety and comfort. Mentally, trekkers should be prepared for long days, changing weather, and basic facilities, especially in the higher regions. With proper training and a positive mindset, the Manaslu Circuit is a demanding but rewarding adventure that offers stunning scenery, peaceful trails, and a true Himalayan experience.

Essential Travel Insurance for Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal

Proper travel insurance is essential for a safe and stress-free Manaslu Circuit Trek. Trekking in the remote Himalayas involves high-altitude trails, rugged terrain, and potential risks such as altitude sickness, landslides, or sudden illness. Without adequate coverage, the cost of emergency care or helicopter evacuation can be extremely high.

We strongly recommend that all trekkers purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical treatment, emergency evacuation, and high-altitude helicopter rescue. It is important to inform your insurer about the exact Manaslu Circuit itinerary you plan to follow and ensure that your policy covers all trekking and mountain activities included in the trip. Additionally, verify that your policy includes trip cancellation coverage, as deposits for treks are usually non-refundable.

Dream Paradise Nepal requires all trekkers to provide proof of insurance before starting the Manaslu Circuit Trek. In case of emergencies, your insurance details will be used to ensure a quick and safe evacuation. Recommended providers based on previous clients’ experiences include World Nomads, IMG Global, and SafetyWing.

Choosing the right travel insurance ensures peace of mind so you can focus on experiencing the stunning landscapes, traditional villages, and majestic peaks of the Manaslu region without worry. Don’t compromise on safety-insurance is a crucial part of preparing for one of Nepal’s most challenging and rewarding treks.

Altitude Sickness on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a common concern for trekkers on the Manaslu Circuit, as oxygen levels drop above 3,000 meters. Symptoms can start to appear after reaching around 3,500 meters and may include headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, chest tightness, and coordination difficulties. As trekkers ascend higher, these symptoms can intensify, making proper acclimatization, hydration, and pacing essential. To reduce the risk of altitude sickness, it is recommended to walk slowly, allow your body to adjust at each elevation, stay well-hydrated, eat nutritious meals, and avoid alcohol. Medications such as Acetazolamide (Diamox) may help prevent or reduce symptoms, but it is advisable to consult a doctor before use. In cases of severe symptoms like confusion, extreme breathlessness, or chest tightness, immediate descent to a lower altitude or use of portable oxygen is crucial. Resting, taking short and easy hikes, and monitoring your health closely are key to safely managing altitude-related challenges. Ignoring symptoms can lead to serious conditions such as High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE). Experienced guides from Green Valley Nepal Treks are trained to manage altitude sickness and provide emergency care, ensuring trekkers can safely enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the Manaslu region.
