Trip Grades

Choosing the right adventure begins with understanding its difficulty level. At Dream Paradise Tours & Treks Pvt. Ltd., we carefully grade every trek, tour, and expedition to help you select a trip that matches your fitness level, trekking experience, and travel goals.

Our grading system is based on several important factors, including daily walking hours, trail conditions, altitude, elevation gain, weather, and the overall physical demands of the journey. While every traveler is different, these grades provide a reliable guide to help you prepare with confidence.

Whether you’re taking your first Himalayan trek or planning a challenging high-altitude expedition, our experienced team is here to help you choose the perfect adventure.

Grade 1 – Easy

Grade 1 trips are ideal for beginners, families, senior travelers, and anyone looking for a relaxed adventure. These journeys typically involve gentle walks of 2 to 5 hours per day on well-maintained trails with minimal elevation gain. The maximum altitude generally remains below 2,500 meters (8,200 feet), making the risk of altitude sickness very low. Comfortable hotels or teahouses are available throughout the journey, and no previous trekking experience is required. Popular Grade 1 trips include Kathmandu Valley Tours, Pokhara Sightseeing, Chitwan National Park Safari, and Short Nature Walks.

Grade 2 – Moderate

Grade 2 trips are suitable for active travelers with a reasonable level of fitness who are looking for a more adventurous experience. These treks usually involve 4 to 6 hours of walking each day on well-established mountain trails with occasional steep ascents and descents. The maximum altitude generally reaches 4,000 meters (13,120 feet). Although previous trekking experience is not essential, regular exercise before the trip is recommended. Examples of Grade 2 adventures include the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Langtang Valley Trek, and Mardi Himal Trek.

Grade 3 – Moderately Challenging

Grade 3 treks are designed for travelers with good physical fitness who are prepared for longer walking days and higher elevations. You can expect to walk 5 to 7 hours daily, reaching altitudes of up to 5,000 meters (16,400 feet). The trails become steeper and more demanding, while thinner air at higher elevations requires proper acclimatization. Basic mountain lodges are commonly used during these treks. Popular Grade 3 adventures include the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Everest Base Camp Trek, and Upper Mustang Trek.

Grade 4 – Challenging

Grade 4 trips are recommended for experienced trekkers with excellent physical fitness and previous hiking experience. These adventures involve 6 to 8 hours of trekking each day through remote mountain landscapes, often crossing high mountain passes at elevations between 5,000 and 5,500 meters (16,400–18,000 feet). Trekkers should be prepared for rugged terrain, changing weather conditions, and the increased possibility of altitude-related challenges. Proper acclimatization and strong endurance are essential. Examples include the Manaslu Circuit Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, and Kanchenjunga Trek.

Grade 5 – Strenuous

Grade 5 adventures are intended for highly experienced trekkers seeking demanding high-altitude challenges. These journeys often require 7 to 10 hours of walking per day in remote Himalayan regions above 5,500 meters (18,000 feet). Trekkers may encounter snow-covered trails, glaciers, difficult weather conditions, and isolated wilderness. Excellent physical fitness, previous high-altitude trekking experience, and strong mental determination are necessary to complete these trips safely. Examples include the Everest Three Passes Trek, Makalu Base Camp Trek, and Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Grade 6 – Expedition

Grade 6 represents the highest level of adventure and is intended for experienced mountaineers and climbers. These expeditions involve technical climbing, glacier travel, and the use of specialized equipment such as crampons, ice axes, climbing harnesses, ropes, and helmets. Climbers should have previous mountaineering experience and be prepared for extreme weather, high-altitude camps, and physically demanding conditions. Professional climbing guides, proper acclimatization, and technical skills are essential for these expeditions. Typical Grade 6 adventures include Island Peak Climbing, Mera Peak Climbing, Lobuche Peak Climbing, and Himalayan mountaineering expeditions.

How We Grade Our Trips

Our trip grading system considers several important factors, including the daily walking distance and trekking hours, the maximum altitude reached during the journey, the amount of elevation gained and lost each day, trail conditions, terrain, weather, seasonal challenges, accommodation standards, the remoteness of the destination, and the level of trekking or climbing experience required. These factors allow us to provide accurate and realistic trip grades so that every traveler can choose an adventure that best suits their abilities and expectations.
